Chiapas is the southernmost state of Mexico, bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the south, Guatemala to the east, and the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Tabasco. Its capital and largest city is Tuxtla Gutiérrez, with other major cultural and population centers including San Cristóbal de las Casas and Tapachula.
