Chemical Sunscreens
Topic
Chemical sunscreens, also known as organic sunscreens, are photoprotective topical products that utilize carbon-based organic compounds to absorb ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Upon absorbing UV rays, these chemical filters undergo a chemical reaction to convert the radiation into heat, which is then released from the skin. Common active ingredients in these formulations include avobenzone, oxybenzone, octisalate, and homosalate.
