The Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness (CATIE) was a large, NIMH-funded randomized clinical trial comparing the effectiveness, tolerability, and practical outcomes of antipsychotic medications in people with chronic schizophrenia. Its primary phase-1 paper found that most participants discontinued treatment, with olanzapine showing the longest time to discontinuation but greater metabolic concerns, while perphenazine performed similarly to several newer antipsychotics.
