by Knoll AG Chemical Works

Cardiazol is the trade name for pentylenetetrazol, a synthetic circulatory and respiratory stimulant that can provoke convulsions. Historically it was used medically to rouse patients from coma and, notably, as a chemically induced convulsive treatment in psychiatry before electroconvulsive therapy became established; it is no longer used for those purposes in routine medicine.
