Epictetus was a Greek Stoic philosopher who was born into slavery and later rose to become one of the most influential teachers of ethics in the Roman Empire. His philosophy, recorded in the Discourses and the Enchiridion, focuses on the dichotomy of control and the pursuit of inner freedom through reason.
