Buridan's donkey paradox is a philosophical illustration of a paradox concerning free will and rational choice. It describes a hypothetical situation where a donkey that is equally hungry and thirsty is placed precisely midway between a stack of hay and a pail of water, ultimately dying of both because it cannot make a rational decision to choose one over the other.
