Brexit was the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU) on January 31, 2020. This historic departure followed a June 2016 national referendum in which 51.9% of voters chose to leave the bloc. The transition period ended on December 31, 2020, establishing a new relationship governed by the EU–UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement.
