Brain zaps are sensory disturbances described as brief, electric shock-like sensations felt in the head or brain, which are often triggered by lateral eye movements. They are a hallmark and widely reported symptom of antidepressant discontinuation syndrome, occurring when a person abruptly stops, reduces, or tapers off certain medications like SSRIs or SNRIs. While generally harmless, they can be highly jarring and are sometimes accompanied by dizziness, tinnitus, or lightheadedness.
