Botulinum toxin
Topic
Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox, is a highly potent neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It functions by preventing the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, causing flaccid paralysis. While it is the causative agent of botulism, it is widely used in minute doses for medical and cosmetic procedures to treat muscle spasms, severe sweating, and wrinkles.
