The Bondo ape, also known as the Bili ape, is a population of eastern chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) inhabiting the Bili Forest in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Once rumored to be a giant, hybrid species of chimpanzee and gorilla that nested on the ground and hunted lions, scientific research later confirmed them to be genetically typical chimpanzees with unique behavioral traits.
