Beta-alanine

Beta-alanine

Topic

Beta-alanine is a naturally occurring beta-amino acid in which the amino group is attached to the β-carbon rather than the α-carbon. Unlike its counterpart alpha-alanine, beta-alanine has no stereocenter and is not used in the biosynthesis of any major proteins or enzymes. It serves as a precursor to carnosine, a dipeptide highly concentrated in muscle tissue, and is widely used as a dietary supplement to enhance athletic performance.
