Battle of Chancellorsville

Topic

The Battle of Chancellorsville, fought from April 30 to May 6, 1863, was a major battle of the American Civil War and the principal engagement of the Chancellorsville campaign. It is widely considered to be Confederate General Robert E. Lee's "perfect battle" due to his risky but successful decision to divide his army in the face of a much larger Union force. Despite the Confederate victory, the battle resulted in heavy casualties, including the mortal wounding of Lieutenant General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.
