Bateman's principle

Bateman's principle

Topic

Bateman's principle is an evolutionary biology theory stating that variability in reproductive success is greater in males than in females. Proposed by English geneticist Angus John Bateman in 1948, it suggests that because females invest more resources into producing a limited number of eggs compared to the abundant sperm produced by males, female reproduction is limited by egg production while male reproduction is limited by access to mates.
