An artificial cell, also known as a synthetic cell or minimal cell, is an engineered particle designed to mimic one or many functions of a biological cell. These structures typically consist of biological or polymeric membranes enclosing biologically active materials, such as liposomes, polymersomes, or microcapsules. They are widely researched in synthetic biology to understand the origins of life and to develop targeted drug delivery systems.
