Ark of the Covenant

The Ark of the Covenant was a gold-plated wooden chest described in biblical tradition as the most sacred relic of the ancient Israelites. According to the Book of Exodus, it was built to contain the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments and was accompanied by an ornamental lid known as the Mercy Seat. It served as a physical manifestation of God's presence and was housed in the Tabernacle and later in Solomon's Temple before disappearing from the historical record.
