Appomattox Court House is a preserved 19th-century village in Appomattox County, Virginia, that is protected as a National Historical Park. It is famous as the site of the Battle of Appomattox Court House and the McLean House, where Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, effectively ending the American Civil War.
