Anhedonia is a diverse array of deficits in hedonic function, characterized by a reduced motivation or ability to experience pleasure. While historically defined as the inability to experience pleasure, modern research distinguishes it into components such as reduced anticipatory pleasure (wanting) and reduced consummatory pleasure (liking). It is a common symptom of various mental health conditions, including major depressive disorder and schizophrenia.
