Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness, is a pathological condition caused by rapid exposure to low amounts of oxygen at high elevations. Symptoms typically include headaches, vomiting, tiredness, dizziness, and trouble sleeping. If left untreated, it can progress to more severe and life-threatening conditions such as high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) or high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE).
