Albert I

Person

Albert I was the name given to the first monkey launched in the U.S. space program; he was a rhesus macaque sent on a 1948 V-2 rocket flight and did not survive the mission. He is often described as the first mammal launched toward space, though the flight did not reach the commonly recognized space boundary.
