The Afghanistan War generally refers to the prolonged armed conflict in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021. It began with a U.S.-led coalition invasion following the September 11 attacks, overthrew the Taliban government, and continued as an insurgency until the Taliban recaptured Kabul and international forces withdrew in 2021.
