Sleep-wake transition states
Topic
Sleep-wake transition states, also known as liminal states or threshold consciousness, refer to the transitional phases of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep. These include hypnagogia, the transition from wakefulness to sleep, and hypnopompia, the transition from sleep to wakefulness. During these states, individuals may experience unique mental phenomena such as vivid hallucinations, lucid dreaming, and sleep paralysis.
